Community Living Consultant Services

The Community Living Consultant Services provides short-term, intensive one-on-one management training, whereby consumers receive personal coaching and tools to successfully employ and manage their personal care assistants (PCAs).  Community Living Consultants meet with consumers for a maximum of 15 visits, tailored to the individual.

The training includes:

• recruiting employees
• writing a job description for potential employees
• interviewing
• hiring
• paperwork
• training, scheduling, supervising and terminating employees
• and much more

While the primary focus is management training, the Community Living Consultant also offers strategies to build a stronger
community or circle of support and to strengthen back-up plans in case of emergencies.  Consumers receive a copy of the handbook You Are Now The Employer of Personal Care Assistants, available through the Self-Directed Support Services Login.  In addition, consumers receive a tool box arranged to set-up personnel files and keep track of other important information for hiring and managing their PCAs.

To be eligible for the Community Living Consultant Services, participants must be living in the community and meet one of the following criteria:

• Be an employer, receiving services through the Money Follows the Person/Personal Care Assistant Program
• Be an employer, receiving services through the Personal Care Assistance (PCA) Waiver

Please note, preference is given to consumers with developmental disabilities, but anyone meeting the eligibility above can apply.
