(Bristol, CT) – Connecticut Community Care, Inc. (CCCI) honored 32 winners of its 2009 Senior Photography Contest during its Annual Meeting which featured a display of the winning photographs and an awards ceremony on Oct. 22 at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. The winners, ranging in age from age 65 to 92, competed with seniors from across the state who submitted nearly 200 photographs in seven categories. Jean Kavanek, age 80, of Bridgewater, was a three time winner in the advanced group. She received first place awards in the Landscape and Seascape categories and second place in the People category. Cynthia Miller, age 71 of Woodbury, took second place honors in the advanced group for a photograph she entered in the Travel category. Three Southbury residents were winners in the beginner/intermediate group: Carole Van Tassell, age 72, who won second place in the Creative category; Elfriede Briel, age 87, who won third place in the Travel category and Virginia Armstrong, age 87, who won third place in the Seascape category.
Danbury resident, Phyllis Zagarella, age 69, Litchfield resident Morton Spencer, age 68, and Cheshire residents Dorothy Peabody, age 92 and A. Fred Beck, age 79 were also honored for their winning photographs. “Many of the contest winners only became interested in photography after they retired, and some have never entered a contest before,” said Pat Mottola of Cheshire, a CCCI Corporator, and Chair of the contest. “I am very pleased that the contest generated so much interest from seniors who are involved in photography professionally and those who enjoy it as a hobby.” Three photographers, Dr. Marjorie Muzyczka, Michael Farslow and John Mattia, served as judges for the contest.
